The Problem

Amazon Restaurants cost per delivery (CPD) was too expensive to continue operating the business without changes. It leveraged a schedule block of time for delivery drivers, but a large portion of that time was not utilized and the driver sat idle.

The Solution

The Instant Offers feature set allowed Amazon to send out delivery offers to drivers in a just-in-time fashion so that Amazon only pays for the time that a driver works. We mimicked the experiences already available from competitors as it was familiar to our drivers.

My Role

I collaborated with the Product Manager to create the vision, execute on the design, and test it repeatedly with users until we achieved a satisfactory result.

How It Worked Out

Instant Offers decreased CPD by 35% within the first few months, and as enhancements continue to be released, that trend continues.

Enhanced Notifications

Because Instant Offers must be accepted within 30 seconds, we improved notifications to provide details and allow the user to accept so they didn't need to spend time opening or signing in to the app.

Surge Pricing

Like other gig-economy applications, surge pricing helps make sure there is delivery capacity available at all times. We wanted to make sure our Delivery Partners knew when we were surging and when we expected to surge to make sure deliveries were made to customers on-time.

Surge pricing map navigation - Provides a way to navigate drivers to areas that are surging if they are not currently in that area
Available Now toggle prompt - Prompts Delivery Partners to shut off the Available Now toggle for better signals and faster delivery
